Eastern European Cities teach the lesson of togetherness to restart the innovation economy – co-organising for the first time a summit on innovation

Innowave Summit is a Varna Brand Event and is held for the first time in Cluj-Napoca, being one of the largest innovation events in Central and Eastern Europe, organized by the Bulgarian Business Forum (Varna), C-EDU Cluster of Education (Cluj-Napoca) and Municipality of Cluj-Napoca in partnership with the City of Varna – in the strategic activities of the first pan-European platform for collaboration and stimulation of start-ups in Europe and the world, StartupCities Platform, in which the two cities Varna and Cluj-Napoca function as founding members.

All the above-mentioned events together with Innowave Summit 2022 aim to celebrate innovation and youth contribution to the participatory reconstruction of Europe’s cities and communities through young people.

Thus, through this collaboration, Bulgaria and Romania will continue their efforts to support start-ups, local public authorities, catalysts of the local innovation ecosystem and innovative bottom-up initiatives to retain talent in our region.

 

Dimitar Vasilev, president of Bulgarian Business Forum, explains the concept as “togetherness put into practice and building on the collaboration and mutual support that Varna and Cluj have developed in the last years. Our communities have similar challenges and our ecosystems are compatible. Meta is testing new features to let creators make money within Horizon Worlds, the company’s social metaverse platform for Quest VR headsets that is soon coming to mobile phones and possibly game consoles.

The metaverse—by nature of its not being limited by physical space—will bring a new level of creativity and open up new opportunities for the next generation of creators and businesses to pursue their passions and create livelihoods.

Creators and entrepreneurs will have more freedom to find a business model that works for them. So we’re excited to take this step today and expand further on the $10 million Horizon Creators Fund we announced last October, which we’ve been using to provide resources to Horizon Worlds creators. Meta is also rolling out a “goal-oriented bonus program” to encourage creators to use its tools and build out their worlds. These bonuses will not be subject to fees and will be paid in full. They are determined largely based on the engagement a creator’s world receives, according to Sharma.

We’re beginning to roll out a test with a handful of creators that will let them sell virtual items and effects within their worlds. For example, someone could make and sell attachable accessories for a fashion world or offer paid access to a new part of a world.
