Google recently announced the launch of Side Rail Ads – a new ad format by AdSense that “sticks” to the sides of webpages as users scroll.

According to the official announcement by the AdSense Team, for users who have enabled the Anchor Ads option, side rails will automatically start to appear on your site after December 13, 2022. Time will tell whether this format further benefits users or is just another superfluous update.

What Are Side Rail Ads?

Side rail ads are essentially sticky ads that appear on the sides of the pages as opposed to the bottom or top of the pages. Like sticky ads, side rail ads stick to the screen as a user scrolls.

However, unlike sticky ads, side rail ads only appear on widescreen devices like desktops. And even then, they only appear if there is a wide enough margin on the sides of the page.

How to Enable/Disable Side Rail Ads on AdSense

According to Google’s announcement, “If you already have anchor ads turned on, side rails will automatically start to appear on your site after December 13, 2022.”

If you prefer not to show side rails, you can turn off the option in your “Auto ads” settings.

Eastern European Cities teach the lesson of togetherness to restart the innovation economy – co-organising for the first time a summit on innovation

Innowave Summit is a Varna Brand Event and is held for the first time in Cluj-Napoca, being one of the largest innovation events in Central and Eastern Europe, organized by the Bulgarian Business Forum (Varna), C-EDU Cluster of Education (Cluj-Napoca) and Municipality of Cluj-Napoca in partnership with the City of Varna – in the strategic activities of the first pan-European platform for collaboration and stimulation of start-ups in Europe and the world, StartupCities Platform, in which the two cities Varna and Cluj-Napoca function as founding members.

The connection and collaboration of the two cities are especially important in the context of the European Year of Youth. In the presence of the European commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Mariya Gabriel, the President of the European Committee of the Regions Apostolos Tzitzikostas and some of the most innovative mayors in Europe, Innowave Summit will show how two European cities work together to bring Youth and Education to the next level.

Connected events during the days of Innowave Summit under the StartupCity Cluj Napoca Days:

  • The Europe Goes Local initiative will host a transnational conference in Cluj-Napoca during 17- 20 May 2022. 
  • In the context of the European Year of Youth, actors from the local ecosystem will also organize a series of events and youth actions in the city. 
  • On 18th May 2022 a Local dialogue with the citizens – co-organized by the European Committee of the Region and the Municipality of Cluj-Napoca on the topic of “Europe Starts in Transylvania. Building the strong foundation of the House of European Democracy”
  • In the morning of May 19th 2022, it will be marked the official establishment of the Network of European Youth Capitals with a signing ceremony. 
  • Part of the agenda of Innowave Summit 2022 will also be the First Regional Event in Romania for the largest startup event – Startup World Cup. The winner will have the chance to compete with the best startups in the world for the prize of $1,000,000 USD. 

All the above-mentioned events together with Innowave Summit 2022 aim to celebrate innovation and youth contribution to the participatory reconstruction of Europe’s cities and communities through young people.

This initiative will further the good connection and collaboration between both cities Cluj Napoca and Varna. Thus, through this collaboration, Bulgaria and Romania will continue their efforts to support start-ups, local public authorities, catalysts of the local innovation ecosystem and innovative bottom-up initiatives to retain talent in our region.

 

Dimitar Vasilev, president of Bulgarian Business Forum, explains the concept as “togetherness put into practice and building on the collaboration and mutual support that Varna and Cluj have developed in the last years. Our communities have similar challenges and our ecosystems are compatible. With Innowave Summit, we invite all of the interested actors to join us into moving to pragmatic and concrete projects, actions and business decisions. The summit will gather policy makers, European startup communities, innovative leaders from regional and global market”.
